On October 25, 2008, the GodSpeaks.com sponsored Nascar, driven by 22 year old up and comer Blake Koch, made it's debut in the Camping World West Championship race.
Blake's father was there and relays the experience...
"Well, here is the first update. PRAISE GOD IS ALL I CAN SAY. God really showed him favor throughout the day. This was his first race and only the second time in a NASCAR which weighs about 600 pounds more than his late model and has 250 more horsepower. Jimi and Richard Childress, the team owners, told Blake to just get out there and have fun, that this was not his race and for him to consider this practice for next year. They said if he would qualify in the top ten it would be unbelievable, but they did not expect it or put pressure on him to do so. Well, he was out there to win, He qualified 4TH out of 24 drivers! He beat Richards primary driver who qualified 9th. It was amazing. EVERYONE, LIKE WE EXPECTED, was saying who is this kid and where did he come from. His qualifying time was 13:74 and the leader was 13:68 not even one tenth of a second behind.
He started in the second row on the outside which is not the position you want to be in. He wanted to be 3rd or 5th on the inside. With this short of a track the inside drivers usually stay bumper to bumper the first few laps and it is very difficult to get to the inside. You can end up in the back of the pack real quick if you can't get in.
Miraculously, he got right in after the first lap. During the race he slid in front of 71 to run 4th for almost 22 laps. The 22 driver is Jason Bowles, who won the race and the 20 driver is Eric Holmes who came in second but won the championship due to points. As you can see from the pictures he was right on these guys, and gaining several times. We got great press. And trust me the other team owners know that God has a car next year and it will be a force to be reckoned with."
All I can say is praise God! Let's pray that the "God-Car" stirs as much excitement about God Himself everyday as it does on race day!
