I'm not sure what else to call this but I feel it as glazing over the issue and just stating...Oh it'll be okay...bye, bye.

I've had a few experiances in church lately. (not any certain one to mention for sure..just happened a few times that bothered me).

Seems to me alot of times I've gone to someone at church to get prayer and maybe some wisdom from them in counseling GODLY that is..and the leadership has just glazed over the issue with while i'm in the middle sentance..okay let's pray. and then bye, bye. It makes me feel like (okay enough of you....NEXT!) Has anyone else had similar experiances?? No church is perfect I KNOW this but what about the below scripture.

Can't find the verse I'm looking for but what about the verse where it states if a brother has a need and one just says i'll pray for you brother and the one whom has abundance doesn't give where is there love?

here it is:

1Jo 3:17 But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels [of compassion] from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

Keep in mind I'm not talking of money here. It's more about wisdom in couseling. That's more of what I'm having an issue with.

I have found that practically applying God's Word is where many Christians fail.

Do not deceive yourselves by just listening to his word; instead, put it into practice. If you listen to the word, but do not put it into practice you are like people who look in a mirror and see themselves as they are. They take a good look at themselves and then go away and at once forget what they look like. But if you look closely into the perfect law that sets people free, and keep on paying attention to it and do not simply listen and then forget it, but put it into practice---you will be blessed by God in what you do.
(James 1:22-25)

We must be doers of the Word. This means getting out of our pews and helping those who need help. Whether it's the sharing of time to really listen to another's struggle, or figuring out how you can help lighten that burden, we must seek both prayer AND action in our life.

I hear ya MMS&L. I see it quite often myself, which is why, when someone posts here seeking guidance, I always try to offer a list of practical steps that person can take along with my prayer for them.

You know I completely agree that you do help out ALOT. This board is an awesome testimony of the Lord and the body of christ in action. I know it's online and all...but really I sense the spirit on this board. It's been SUCH a comfort to me when the above situations happen. But I'm not saying I havn't been the guilty party either in doing the exact same thing to another as I've felt.

Thanks for listening...I've been in a little bit of a I guess you could say reflective mood lately..not sure if it's ALL completly constructive though.

I am not always able to catch T.D. Jake's sermons, but his "Breaking Point" series really, really speaks to this. Highly anointed. It's been ministering to me lately =).

If you know anything about me, you know I'd agree. Does anybody ever come right out and ask for something specifically? I'm sure if the need was there the church would rise to meet it. When I was 15 my youth director found someone to pay my way to church camp. She knew I was struggling, it probably saved my life! Then this October I went to speak to my pastor. I was hoping to get referred somewhere but I felt like I got the answer above. I knew what I needed but I expected him to read my mind. It's not always bad to ask for things, I think we are all smart enough to know where to draw the line.

Well hope that atleast makes sense!

Chelle,

Just curious I don't know how to get his sermons either...but does he say about this issue? If you could sum it up from your understanding of what he taught in that sermon?

I'm trying to think how I would even begin to summarize his lessons. It's chunky soup if you know what I mean =). Here's the page, but the preview paragraph doesn't come close to doing it justice.

It's just really good, first because there's great relief in knowing that a minister can actually relate to where you're at and not "glaze" over it like you said...but he takes it to several other levels. I was thinking you might still catch this series shown on Christian televison here and there, because he did the "and Peter" one just the other day.

The "and Peter" one of course was how to get a personal letter from our living God, versus just "the other apostles" (Acts). This type of letter goes only to those rising out of the other side of the "Breaking Point" as Peter was. This addresses real serious life issues versus like "um where am I going to go to college"(his words). He rolls up his sleeves for sure, and sort of ridicules those Christians who want to give you a sermon, a song, and a pat on a back saying "don't be discouraged". Remember who he's ministering to when he says this (instead of who he's scolding). I think the life things (serious stuff) that his congregation can testify to is a sure sign that we have a God of restoration. One who builds up and doesn't tear down. (Or if He ever tears down, it's for the purpose of rebuilding!).

Anyway...I don't know if this helps at all. Maybe I really said a bunch of nothing, but few could deliver the punch or cleansing shower of God's Word on this one like TD does.

Your Sis and Friend, Chelle

ps...in this particular sermon he emphasized how Peter must have stayed on the mind of Jesus even during His agonizing crucifixation...since once He arose He called his name personally and asked the women to carry the message to Peter that said, "meet Me in Galilee"

Those approaching, or at the breaking point need to know that Jesus is saying "Meet Me in Galilee" =)

Just a suggestion. Sometimes it's best if you have had a problem with a particular person on something, they might not even realize they've done it. And just going to them and in Christian love explaining what they did and how it made you feel can help everyone alot.
