I have tried hard to think about every word I pray about. There was a time when I prayed the same prayers so often that I was just saying the words, kind of like driving the same road every day and when you arrive, you can't remember the trip. You can get so used to saying a prayer like the Lords Prayer. I worry that God feels lonely hearing so many people praying but not saying anything. I wish the Church would remind us about really talking to God. I know God taught us to pray his prayer, but if we don't think about what we are saying, is it worth saying at all?

Hey, welcome to the Coffee House. I totally agree with you on the importance of earnest, heartfelt prayer...like Jesus taught (Matthew 6:7).

I was doing the same thing, until a few years ago I decided to just have a dialog with God. I go to a traditional church so the private conversations I have through Christ are a big help. I find I am certainly not repeating myself any more. Jmstine

Hi Jean! Welcome to the Coffee House. I can totally relate to what you are saying. I LOVE my conversations with Jesus...they are always so relaxed. I used to worry about "how" I would pray. Now, I just speak from my heart, knowing that Jesus sees it and knows where I am coming from.
